The world ended on October the seventh, 2011.
Not with a bang, as some theorists predicted, but with
a whimper. There was no fruition of a Mayan prophecy,
no alien attack, no terrorist uprising, and no supervolcano
eruption. It was a simple virus that finished mankind off;
a superflu that couldn't be cured once it had been contracted.
A small group of survivors find themselves struggling
to come to terms with the new world around them. Living
in a disused army barracks, the group survive in relative safety,
only sending scavengers for food and supplies when necessary.
Shane Bridge had, until recently, been incarcerated in a
maximum-security prison, but now that he is out, and the
monotony of day-to-day life has become unbearable, the
time has come to abandon the confines of the barracks and
begin the search for his family. But death is never far away,
and the flesh-eating hordes are the least of Shane's worries.
The Frost has begun...
Dead Frost The Dead Series Book 2 eBook Adam Millard Chris Taggart
This is the second book in the Dead Series. Shane, Marla, and Terry leave the base they have been living since the end of the first book to search for Shane's wife and daughter. I love the way way the story moves along and the introduction of Megan into the little band of surviors. This book brings to light one of my biggest fears...Zombie kids. I look foward to reading more of the series!Product details

Dead Frost The Dead Series Book 2 eBook Adam Millard Chris Taggart Reviews
Dead Frost is the sequel to Dead Cells, and I was hoping that it would outdo the previous. Unfortunately, it did not. Not that Dead Frost is a bad zombie read, but it felt like a bit of a let down after the way this story had started in Dead Cells. As with my review on Dead Cells, I'll tell what I liked and what I didn't like, but warn that it will include spoiler info.
**Spoiler Alert**
Pros
Once again, I was happy with the grammar and general flow of the story. Often at this price, parts of the story can be incoherent. The story had a nice flow with the language and I never felt like I had to re-read a passage to understand it, which happens a lot when buying kindle books at this price.
Millard isn't afraid to kill off characters. And not just the ones that nobody will like. Some of the characters I was starting to like, but a lot of them do not make it through to the end. Also, not everyone who made it through Dead Cells will make it through to the end of Dead Frost. It's nice when an author doesn't become too attached to his characters, so that you're never really quite sure what might happen.
The ending was a bit of a twist. Not out of left field, but not what you're built up to expect. And, as in real life, the hero doesn't always "win" in the end just because he's the hero.
The set up for a sequel and how Shane will deal with the events of Dead Frost could be interesting.
Finally, a school full of zombie kids dressed up in costumes from the Wizard of Oz. Now, that's just creepy (in a good way for this type of book).
Cons
I felt like Dead Cells took a more unique idea and did well with it. Dead Frost reads much more like a typical zombie book. Survivor camp run by military dictator who doesn't really know what he's doing. Hero takes off on his own. Bad things happen to him and the camp. Just not what I had hoped for after Dead Cells. After reading the whole book, I just felt like the story doesn't stand out to me too much from a lot of other zombie stories I've read. Not great, not bad, just somewhere in the middle.
I felt that character development took a step back. Some of the new characters are interesting, and I wanted to like them, but I never got to know them well enough to feel invested in them. Even the main characters, who had been developed well in the last book, felt a bit bland. It's not just that they didn't grow, it felt like they actually regressed a bit.
The story felt really short. I don't know if the story was short compared to Dead Cells, but it felt that way. Looking back, I just feel like not much really happened in the story. Nor was there the suspense that I felt in Dead Cells. When a zombie book is suspenseful and I'm invested, I have that mentality of "just a few more pages" which often makes me stay up way too late. I didn't have that with Dead Frost. I was okay with putting it down for a while and coming back later.
Overall, a decent zombie read for the price. I might be a little hard on this one because I had expectations for it that, in my opinion, where not lived up to by this story. Still, I would recommend Dead Frost, especially if you've read Dead Cells. If you haven't read Dead Cells yet, I suggest you go find that first. It's a better story and (as of this writing) cheaper than Dead Frost. Then, if you like Dead Cells, give this a try, just don't expect as much.
I enjoyed this follow up to Dead Cells. It was a good zombie read. I would have liked more information on what happens next...another book on its way??? Still it had all the parts needed for a good zombie story. Would recommend after reading Dead Cells.
Good read and descriptive. Follows up well from first book. Characters seem a little stupid to survive as long as they have. They continually make mistakes that they shouldn't considering their past experiences with the Zombies. Obviously they don't learn from their mistakes. All in all I would still recommend both books as they are entertaining to the zombie-apocalypse reader.
For the same reason as the first book British vernacular in a story that supposedly takes place in America. But this book may have been even better than the first one and the use of British slang less. I would have given this story 4 and a half stars if I could have.
I really liked this series and hoping for another book from the author. It was a good read that kept me on the edge the whole time. I read just about every zombie book out there. I've found alot of them are the same story over and over again. This story did not let me down. So if you are a zombie fan, doesn't wait to read this one.
Not as good as the first but still not bad. Still having trouble with the British vernacular when the story is located in the States and all the characters are American.
This is the third installment in the DEAD series by talented writer and editor Adam Millard. This follows Dead West and Dead Cell. What could be worse than battling the undead hordes? How about in minus degree weather on a wasteland coated in snow? In this latest installment we have one of the characters from Dead Cell return here as one of our "living" characters and he wants nothing more than to find his family. He leaves a "safe" enclave and goes forth in the wasteland of what once was America to find them. Along with a few friends and a pilfered piece of transportation equipment he sets out into the world to battle the dead and hopefully find some of the living along the way. If that was not problem enough, it is below freezing and it is snowing. Harder to hide from the hungry masses on a barren white landscape isn't it? You bet it is. I believe this installment has ratcheted up the violence. (both hungry dead snacking on living, and the living fighting to retain their fluids and organs; as well as living against living violence) I ask when are we ever going to get along, if not in a Zombie Apocalypse, then when? I kid but this book and has a higher body count and more graphic scenes of gore, and you will enjoy every minute of it if you are indeed a fan of the genre. Along with that, I must say the human story is more developed here as well. Along with Shane, you get a sense of these characters and feel for them and want them to survive in their journey. They seem real to us and we can root for them along the way. This book does leave the story open for another installment, and I do hope one is coming soon. I do want to stress, that while you do NOT need to read them all to know what is going on I ask why not? They all deliver. Dead Frost, especially.
